Revisions & Follow-Up
Are revisions included?▼
One round of follow-up questions or clarifications is included with every service. This covers questions about my feedback, clarifying priorities, or discussing next steps.
If you'd like me to review revised pages or do additional editing after implementing my suggestions, I'm happy to quote a fair price for that work.
What if I need more help after the edit?▼
Many authors return for additional rounds of editing as their manuscript evolves. I offer returning clients priority scheduling and can often provide a modest discount on follow-up work. Just reach out and we'll discuss what you need.
Confidentiality & Ownership
Who owns the intellectual property?▼
You do. Your manuscript, ideas, characters, and story belong entirely to you. My edits and suggestions become part of your work:I claim no ownership or rights to any material you share with me.
Is my manuscript kept confidential?▼
Absolutely. I treat every manuscript as confidential. I will never share your work, discuss your project with others, or use your material for any purpose beyond our editing engagement. If you require a formal NDA, I'm happy to sign one.
Will you use my work as a sample or for training?▼
No. I will never use your manuscript, excerpts, or ideas for marketing, samples, AI training, or any other purpose without your explicit written permission.
Getting Started
What if I'm not sure what service I need?▼
No problem:this is common. Send me a few pages or your full manuscript along with a note about your goals and concerns. I'll read through it and send you a proposal recommending the service that best fits your situation, along with a quote.
There's no obligation, and I'm always happy to discuss options before you commit.
What file formats do you accept?▼
I work with Word documents (.docx, .doc), plain text (.txt), and PDF. Word is preferred since it allows tracked changes and comments. If you have another format, just ask:we can usually work something out.
How long does editing take?▼
Timelines depend on the service, your manuscript's length, and my current schedule. When you request a quote, I'll provide a specific delivery date. Typical timelines:
- Editorial Assessment: 1–2 weeks
- Developmental Editing: 3–6 weeks
- Line Editing: 2–4 weeks
- Ghostwriting: Varies by project scope
Rush turnaround is sometimes available for an additional fee.
Formatting & Design
Do you format manuscripts for publishers or KDP?▼
I don't offer formatting or book design services. My focus is on the words:story, structure, and prose. Formatting for publication (interior layout, ebook conversion, print-ready files) is a distinct skill set that deserves a dedicated professional.
I recommend hiring a book formatter or designer who specializes in this work. Platforms like Reedsy, 99designs, or Fiverr have vetted professionals, or I can suggest someone if you'd like a referral.
After the Edit
Can you help me find an agent or publisher?▼
I'm an editor, not an agent or publishing consultant. I can't submit your work on your behalf or guarantee representation. However, a polished, professionally edited manuscript significantly improves your chances.
Here are resources for finding agents and publishers:
- QueryTracker : Database of literary agents with query tracking tools
- Publishers Marketplace : Industry news and agent/editor listings
- Manuscript Wish List (#MSWL) : What agents and editors are actively seeking
- Duotrope : Searchable database of publishers and literary magazines
- Writer's Market : Comprehensive guide to agents, publishers, and markets
What about self-publishing?▼
Self-publishing is a legitimate and increasingly popular path. If you're considering it, here are some platforms to explore:
- Amazon KDP : Kindle Direct Publishing for ebooks and print-on-demand
- IngramSpark : Wide distribution to bookstores and libraries
- Draft2Digital : Easy distribution to multiple ebook retailers
- Barnes & Noble Press : Print and ebook publishing through B&N
Remember: professional editing, cover design, and formatting are essential investments for self-published authors who want their books to compete.
Pricing & Payment
How is pricing determined?▼
Pricing is based on word count and the service you need. I charge per-word rates that are competitive with industry standards. When you submit your manuscript, I'll provide a firm quote with the total cost:no surprises.
There's a $250 minimum fee for all services.
When do I pay?▼
For most projects, I require a deposit (typically 50%) to secure your spot in my schedule, with the balance due upon delivery. For larger projects like ghostwriting, we'll set up a milestone payment schedule.
I accept payment via Stripe (credit card) or direct bank transfer.
Do you offer refunds?▼
The booking deposit is non-refundable, as it reserves time in my schedule. If you need to cancel after work has begun, you're responsible for payment for work completed. See the Terms of Service for full details.
Other Questions
What genres do you work with?▼
I work with both fiction and nonfiction across most genres, including literary fiction, memoir, thriller, mystery, romance, science fiction, fantasy, young adult, and narrative nonfiction. If you're unsure whether your project is a fit, just ask.
Do you work with first-time authors?▼
Absolutely. Many of my clients are working on their first book. I tailor my feedback to your experience level and goals, whether you're querying agents, self-publishing, or writing for personal fulfillment.
Can I see a sample edit before committing?▼
I don't typically provide free sample edits, as even a short sample requires meaningful time and attention. However, I'm happy to discuss your project in detail, answer questions, and share anonymized examples of my work so you can assess whether we're a good fit.
What if I have a question that's not answered here?▼
Just ask! Send me a message and I'll get back to you.
